Ellie Harrison – Anti Capitalist Aerobics

30th October 2013

Manchester Museum, UK

At the ‘Ways of Seeing Climate Change’ event as part of the Manchester Science Festival, artist Ellie Harrison invited event participants to take part in ‘Anti Capitalist Aerobics’ a ‘revolutionary new exercise programme’.

The artwork engages delegates in an energy intensive workout in order to expose some of the fundamental contradictions in the way we live our lives.

Ellie Harrison’s ‘Anti Capitalist Aerobics’ was part of ‘Invisible Heat’, a programme of arts commissions made in collaboration with scientists and supported by the Wellcome Trust.

As well as Ellie’s work, Invisible Heat artworks included: Kasia Molga and Adam Chodzko. The programme also included collaboration with scientists Professor Paul Wilkinson from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Professor Frank Kelly from King’s College London and Professor Kevin Anderson from Tyndall and Manchester University.
