Living Streets schools project
Posted on 28.04.2011In spring 2011 Invisible Dust began an exciting partnership with the national charity Living Streets to work with Downshall Primary School, Redbridge Council and the local community with the ambition of improving the local environment and encouraging people to walk more.
Artist Effie Coe from Invisible Dust worked with Year 5 and 6 pupils from Downshall Primary School where she ran a series of workshops to interpret and explore the local neighbourhood through drawings made while walking, imaginary visions of the surrounding streets, and abstract mapping exercises.
Following the workshops, Coe produced a mural incorporating the pupils’ drawings to enliven the exterior of the school’s towering wall, which backs onto a busy road and is used as a cut-through onto the A12. The work was officially opened to the public at an event to promote walking during National Walking Month at St. John’s Evangelist Church.
