We are invigorated to join ‘Culture Declares Emergency’ a new movement of artists, art practitioners, arts organisations and others in the culture sector who are declaring a Climate and Ecological Emergency.
Over 190 organisations and individuals joined us in declaring their support for the movement with a launch procession starting at Somerset House, London on 3rd April. More info here – Culture Declares in London.
As a UK based art and environment organisation we recognise the importance of the arts in tackling the global climate emergency. Climate breakdown is already having devastating consequences for communities around the world and as the impacts of climate change accelerate it is vital that we face the truth, demand action, support each other and express solidarity with affected communities.
We believe that the UK’s commitment to both the 2016 Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals require an urgent, deep, societal and cultural transformation and the arts have a crucial role to play.
Invisible Dust have pledged to:
– continue our commitment to communicating the science behind climate change and related health and environmental issues to as broad an audience as possible through creating high quality art and cultural interventions that engage hearts and imaginations, and inspire change.
– strive to develop ever more effective methodologies for reaching and representing the interests of disadvantaged communities, who are the first to suffer the negative effects of climate breakdown.
– work towards reducing our emissions to net zero* by 2025. And call on Governments to enact legally binding policy measures to reduce emissions to net zero by 2025 and to reduce consumption levels.
Declaration ends.
*Net zero means that on balance one’s activities are zero emissions, taking into account all possible Greenhouse Gas emissions and actions taken to mitigate or offset those emissions.
