Istanbul art and science talk for Mat Collishaw’s exhibition

Invisible Dust brings artists and scientists together internationally to uncover local climate contexts. ‘Arrhythmia’ is an exhibition by UK artist Mat Collishaw who through new technology explores ideas of climate catastrophe and natural history through connection to the towering figures of art and science Albrecht Dürer and Ernst Haeckel.

The conversation draws out the Turkish contexts from the exhibition themes, with marine biologist Muharrem Balcı from Istanbul University, and food and environmental rural campaigner Güneşin Aydemir from Çamtepe Ecological Life Center Çanakkale Turkey.

The panelists look at the role of art with climate change and highlight urgent environmental issues in Turkey, including vast algae blooms on the Marmara and Bosphorus seas suffocating marine ecosystems and the water and pollution problems affecting food farming in many rural areas.
