Wild Eye: Sea Watching Event

Free mosaic workshops for families are planned as part of Wild Eye’s seawatching day on Sunday 4th August at the existing shelter site on Marine Drive. This event will coincide with National Marine Week and feature volunteers from the Sea Watch Foundation and Citizen Fins. Equipped with binoculars, they will assist visitors in spotting dolphins and porpoises along Scarborough’s coast. The event is free to drop in between 11am and 3pm. 

What’s on:

Wildlife Spotting with Sea Watch Foundation: Experience the thrill of spotting porpoises and dolphins in their natural habitat. Sea Watch Foundation experts will guide you through the process, sharing insights and tips to enhance your wildlife watching experience.

Mosaic Making with Coralie Turpin: Get creative with artist Coralie Turpin. Join her in a hands-on mosaic-making workshop where we will make beautiful marine-themed artwork.

Citizen Fins: Learn about an exciting national recording scheme and discover how you can contribute to vital research and help identify cetaceans.

Local Geology Exploration: Delve into the geological history of the area with a local geologist. Learn about past wildlife through fascinating fossils and uncover the rich prehistoric life that once thrived here.

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust: Gain deeper knowledge about the local marine wildlife with our dedicated volunteers, have a go at bird watching and explore shore finds from the East Coast.

Please note that all activities are available for the duration of the event. Children must be supervised at all times.

Wild Eye is an exciting art and nature programme celebrating Scarborough’s incredible wildlife and coastal environment. Local communities, leading artists, businesses, and scientists are working together to create a series of events, artworks, and experiences that connect people with the natural world and support positive action for nature.

Wild Eye aims to foster a greater understanding of the incredible wildlife found across the North Yorkshire Coast, raising awareness of issues around nature, biodiversity and climate change.
