This engaging afternoon brought Alice Sharp, Artistic Director of Invisible Dust, together with Magnus Johnson, a marine biologist from Hull University, to reveal the wonders beneath Yorkshire’s seas. They explored the fascinating connections we share with our underwater ecosystems, weaving together extraordinary stories, stunning artworks, and new scientific insights.

Alice Sharp guided us through how art can illuminate the invisible threads that connect us to marine life, through looking at the Wild Eye artworks while Magnus Johnson provided valuable insights into the latest marine biology research and its implications for Yorkshire’s seas. This fusion of art and science can enhance our understanding and deepen our connection to the natural world.

What is Wild Eye?

Wild Eye is an exciting art and nature programme celebrating Scarborough’s incredible wildlife and coastal environment. Local communities, leading artists, businesses, and scientists are working together to create a series of events, artworks, and experiences that connect people with the natural world and support positive action for nature.

Wild Eye aims to foster a greater understanding of the incredible wildlife found across the North Yorkshire Coast, raising awareness of issues around nature, biodiversity and climate change.

Wild Eye is delivered in partnership with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, a regional environmental charity,  Invisible Dust, a UK-based art-science organisation and North Yorkshire Council. Wild Eye is funded by the Towns Fund drawn from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government administered through North Yorkshire Council and this funding is specifically assigned to the development of nature and culture tourism in Scarborough.
