Situated Ecologies: Alice Sharp on exchanging methods across art and science – 1 Oct

Calle de la Pilarica 81 Bajo, 28026 Madrid, Spain

From 30 September to 4 October, the Institute for Postnatural Studies (IPS) will host a research residency with Invisible Dust and our Artistic Director, Alice Sharp. Invisible Dust develops ambitious collaborations between leading artists and scientists, working to inspire UK and global audiences to engage critically with pressing environmental issues — treating art not as illustration of climate data, but as a way of generating new thinking and public understanding around ecological crisis.

Supported by the British Council, the residency is articulated as a space for exchanging methodologies and knowledge between IPS and Invisible Dust. Alice Sharp will lead collaborative working sessions on situated artistic practices, review ongoing research, and explore new forms of cultural mediation — alongside internal sessions with the IPS team and meetings with local cultural agents and institutions in Madrid.

The residency highlight is a public talk on October 1st, where case studies on the intersection of art, ecology and social engagement developed will be shared with the wider public.

The Institute for Postnatural Studies is a centre for artistic experimentation and critical research in Madrid that explores and challenges the concept of the postnatural as a framework for contemporary creation. Founded in 2020, it operates as both a platform for critical thought and a collaborative network of artists, researchers, curators, and thinkers engaged with the complexities of the ecological crisis.
