Dr Henry Ruhl

Dr Henry Ruhl is Head of the DeepSeas Group at the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) in Southampton. Currently focusing on the Atlantic ocean, he uses deep-sea underwater vehicles to study species that have poorly understood biological and ecological attributes relating to carbon sequestration processes. His research is vital in understanding the anthropogenic impacts in the deep-ocean, particularly crucial due to the growing development of energy, fisheries and mining activities. In addition to this research, Dr Ruhl helps coordinate ocean observatory efforts related to ESONET, as a science objectives work package leader and an Associate scientist for EMSO and DELOS.

Dr Henry Ruhl will be collaborating with artist Alex Hartley, on a project exploring the changing landscape of the deep-sea due to climate change and human activity.
