Dr Claire Walsh

Dr Claire Walsh is a research associate in the School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at Newcastle University and research fellow of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.

Claire studied for a BSc in Geography at Newcastle University before moving to the Department of Civil Engineering to complete a PhD titled: “Simulation and analysis of river flow regimes: implications for sustainable management of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) under climate change.”

She has worked on a number of different research projects focusing upon climate impacts (floods, droughts) and adaptation, particularly in urban environments. Both current and past research activities have all included elements of stakeholder engagement and knowledge transfer.

Recently she undertook a knowledge exchange secondment at the local city council to assess the cities’ vulnerability to climate impacts and to assess potential adaptation mechanisms and their multiple benefits. Dr Walsh has recently completed a second term as Honorary Secretary of the British Hydrological Society.
